Origin Destination Surveys

Origin/Destination Surveys are one of the more complex surveys to be undertaken, but are much requested for traffic movement data within defined areas. Theses surveys are typically via the capture of vehicle registration plates and tracking their movements through an area using the strategic placement of survey teams. A wide range of sampling criteria can be introduced to capture several different classifications of vehicle types.  Austraffic specialises in Origin/Destination (OD) Surveys using a variety of techniques depending on the desired outcomes. These techniques  fall broadly into two categories:-

MANUAL

ATS has conducted many OD surveys using teams of surveyors, several of which have required the training and supervision of several hundred personnel. Manual surveys typically require the recording of the last for digits of number plates. Sampling by vehicle type, colour, Austroads classification etc., can be varied  to suit the client’s desired outcomes.

VIDEO

Austraffic is leading the way in the development of Video Surveying techniques. This technology lends itself perfectly to the conducting of OD surveys. Austraffic recently conducted OD surveys using static video installations on the Pacific Highway tracking vehicle movements all the way from Newcastle to the Queensland border.
