Queue Delay Surveys

Queue Delay surveys can have a variety of technique applied and with varying data outcomes recorded.

Generally a manual observation technique is applied. A common technique is to record a sample vehicle as it arrives in the queue and note it's arrival time and departure time as it passes the stop line on a green phase.

In a single cycle a single observer may track a number of sample vehicles.

Global positioning is also a useful tool in travel time surveys and for plotting the time distance along a road. Operator identifiers can be added to indict the joining of a queue, but the lack of movement with the GPS also can be reasonably assumed to be a queue forming.
